Pass Plus

Statistics prove that the risk of having an accident is highest during the first years of driving after passing the driving test. This is why the Government launched the Pass Plus programme. Pass Plus lets you build on existing skills and knowledge, gain valuable driving experiences and reduce the risk of road traffic accidents. It helps to increase your driving competency and may also entitle you to cheaper car insurance. Backed by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and major motor insurance companies, it is designed to help new drivers gain more experience and become better equipped for the demands of modern driving.

The course needs to be taken within twelve months of passing your driving test to qualify for any insurance benefits.

The PASS PLUS training involves six sessions with a Pass Plus registered driving instructor to give you experience of driving in town, on rural roads, in all weathers, on dual carriageways and motorways and also driving in the dark. After completion you may be able to obtain a discount from some insurance companies, subject to your personal circumstances.

In addition  some local councils provide financial support for the Pass Plus course. For example South Lanarkshire Council give a £75 grant for all new qualified drivers towards the cost of Pass Plus, which is approximately £140.  For more information and to apply for this grant click on the button below.
